Engagement Party [Aug. 1st, 2005|06:14 pm]
Giant Engagement Party happened last night. Met lots of people whose names I have already forgotten, got drunk, got some gifts. For some reason it's hard to get very drunk in Canada, unless you are a Canadian. Received a lot of suggestions about the best place to go beaver spotting. My beaver joke has turned into an obsession for about half the people I meet here, none of them have ever seen one either.

Some other stuff has been happening but all I really remember is the food. Pretty soon this bee will be too fat to fly. Mmmmmm, candy bees...

Went to another J-Mall and spent lotsa monies on Gundam Seed trading figures and some other stuff. So much anime goodness. Had to resist buying Roy Mustang gloves.

Off to Moore Wilson's type shop this week to buy a case of Peanut Butter Cups.

Giant Bridge Bear [Jul. 27th, 2005|12:31 pm]
[Current Mood | lazy]

Wen't to a large swingy bridge thing the other day. It went over a large canyon river thing. The landscape here is the same as in NZ. The hills look the same from a distance and it smells kinda similar. The candy is better though, and the drivers are angrier.

We caught a boat into the main city centre and went to Chinatown. Streets and streets of stores selling funky asian crap and a huge variety of mushrooms. Found lots of anime knock-off stuff that was horribly over-priced. Found some good ideas for the wedding though.

Mooched some of the rest of Vancouver, for the most part I'm finding the shopping pretty uninspiring, although paperbacks are way cheaper, must stock up on reading material.

Yesterday we drove out to a Japanese mall. It was neat. There was a whole shop full of anime toys (the real thing this time) but when I convert the prices it turns out slightly cheaper to just order things over the net. The J-Mall did have a giant spurting fountain in the middle though, kinda like the giant water show fountains in Las Vegas. Everyone would stop and watch when it came on.

Giant engagement party is happening this weekend. I wonder if anyone would notice if I hid up a tree?

I saw a squirrel....it was going like this! [Jul. 24th, 2005|03:36 pm]
[Current Mood | peaceful]
[Current Music |Something from thwe FMA OST]

Squirrels are tree-rats. Not much else to say about them except I didn't manage to find out whether they taste like cinnamon.

I found good coffee today. I had some confusion trying to work how to order something without any milk product of weird flavoring but once we got over that it turns out Canadians can make a fine Long Black (except they call it an Espresso Americano - visitors to North America take note). It tasted a lot like the coffee I used to get in Plimmeton, not as good as Midnight but it suits the summer really well.

Went to the Gap and other mainstream North American clothing stores today. Everything there was really boring, I don't think they make DarchiStyle clothing here.

It's too hot to stay inside and type. I'm off to try and lick squirrels with Jasper.

Weird observations [Jul. 23rd, 2005|10:38 am]
I haven't even been here 24 hours yet but...

There is a filing bee in my room. There's this filing cabinet in the room we sleep in and it has a bee stuck in one of it's drawer handles. I'm going to take a picture of it as soon as I find a digital camera. Not sure what I think of my work following me here.

Coffee in Canada is strange. Not bad, just strange. And it apparently comes from the mountains.

I keep thinking I head a crow or a raven or something and there is some sort bird watching me.

Finally in Canada [Jul. 22nd, 2005|04:54 pm]
It took about 44 hours to get to Canada. Three hour flight to Sydney, followed by about six hours of getting on and off the same plane as the crew tried to find out why the emergency lights kept flashing at them.....

They couldn't work it out so the airline put us up in a hotel for the rest of the day/night and gave us some horrible meals. Came back the next day, boarded the plane, plane taxied to the start of the runway, plane stopped moving. Apparently we couldn't take off because the Americans wouldn't give us security clearance to land in Honolulu. I curse their bees.

Finally got clearence and took off. As the first delicious airline meal turned up I discovered that the travel agent had forget to send my request for the vegetarian meal. I ate all the plastic cutlery instead. No really, all of it, not a scrap of cutlery left on the plane.

The rest of the flight wasn't so bad though. Turns out at 30000 (or whatever) feet you have a pretty good view of the Grand Stream. We also passed a huge fleet of littleships, though I couldn't tell what nation they were from.

Landed in Honolulu for refueling. Had to get off the plane so we could go through American security and get back on the plane (literally). Now the Americans have my fingerprints but little do they know that during the retina scan I planed a virus in their system that will grant my bee minions control within the next few weeks.

Finally arrived in Canada. So far the only weird thing I have noticed is that the green part of traffic lights flashes when.... well I have no why. Time to sleep off some jet lag

Stuff from Canada [Jul. 5th, 2005|08:48 am]
[Current Mood |TheDib!]
[Current Music |Juuni Kokuki OST - Juuni Genmu Kyoku (Piano Solo)]

I'm going to Canada (or possibly Canananada) in two weeks. So what would people like from Canada? I figure while I'm in a a crazy foreign country I may as well try and get some crazy foreign stuff for people.

I already have a few requests for enough maple syrup to bathe in.

Post what you want here in the form of a Quest (ie, Yay verily Tarax whilst in Canada you must quest to find me a Moose with Beavers for antlers) and I'll update while away with how the quests are going.

Zillatte [Jul. 5th, 2005|08:36 am]
It was just me and Zillah at home last week, NotQuiteWifeyYet was away in Auckland. This led to much Zillah madness and confusion, as it is hard for Zillahs to get in between one person. Not that she didn't try, although the result was sitting on my head again.

I am beginning to suspect that Zillah is made of asbestos as she does not feel the heat. She keeps sitting right by the oil heater and when I go to pick her up she burns my hands. My hands.... they burn.

For SEED Destiny Fans [Jun. 16th, 2005|07:32 pm]
Came across this on one of the anime blogs I read, its refering to ep34 of SEED Destiny.

"Before the destined fight is shown, we are treated to more spectular piloting by ace pilot Arnold Neumann who manages to dodge shots in a capital ship aimed at very close range. Seriously, if this guy ever goes SEED I think he could single handedly end the war, he’s that amazing. We’re also treated to a range of ’surprized Arthur’ shots as Arthur acknowledges the power that is Arnold, and in a seperate incident when Arthur realizes that the hot woman from Orb was actually Captain Murrue Ramius of the Archangel. Whether this will cause Arthur to have conflicting loyalties in the future is up for debate."

heh

In other Zillah related news, Zillah managed to pull down the curtains on the front window (including the curtain track) yesterday. I curse her kitty madness. I suspect it was in retaliation for taking her mouse away the other day.

[Current Music |Gackt - Oasis]

Upon exiting the shower this morning I discovered Zillah had caught a mouse and was involved in mouse-madness-catching-fun. I suspect Zillah caught this particular mouse a few days ago, as for the last few days she has been sitting in front of the dishwasher.......just watching. Anyway, we rescued the mouse and set it free. As a reward Zillah jumped on my head.

The incident inspired by to write a short song.

"Uncertainty mouse,
You live in my shoe.
Except maybe you don't.
It's really hard to tell.
Because you are the mouse of uncertainty."

I've been singing it to my palm pilot all morning.

[Current Music |Gackt - Metamorphoze]

Today while reading Gunota, I came across mention of a JRock singer called Gackt. Investigation revealed that he is a bit like a JRock David Bowie but then again so is TM Revolution. Seems there are a whole raft of JRock Bowie's. I suspect Bowie to have seeded them in Japan in some sort of attempt to take it over. Only they they are now beyond his control and are spawning at an uncontrolable rate. Or perhaps it's just that people really like bishounen. Anyway the moral of the story is listen to Gackt if you like the sort of music he makes.

Today my office was rearranged, the result being an office where things are in different places. So I went home and plugged in a new screen to my PC, the result being a screen that was exactly the same as the old one. Although I am aware that things are being achieved today, I'm not sure what my relationship is to the achievement.

Just watched some Victorian Romance Emma, which is the most accurate anime depicting Victorian England. Watching too much 'Emma' causes you to believe that the Victorian's spoke Japanese. Even the ones that come from India and ride elephants
